Nitrous Oxide & Anesthesia

IV Sedation and Nitrous Oxide

We offer the option of various levels of sedation for our office procedures. We utilize a certified Nurse Anesthetist for patients who will require deep IV sedation for long treatments or anxiety. IV sedation is a level of conscious sedation, not general anesthesia, which is done in our office. If you elect this type of sedation, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

We can also offer oral medications for sedation depending on the needs of the therapy and patient.

Dr. Pickle and his staff can answer any questions that you may have about this option.

Reasons to Not use Nitrous Oxide

Though there are no major contraindications to using nitrous oxide, you may not want to use it if you have emphysema, exotic chest problems, M.S., a cold, or other difficulties with breathing. You may want to ask your dentist for a “5-minute trial” to see how you feel about this type of sedation method before proceeding.
