Why See A Specialist Like Dr. Pickle?
Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Prosthodontists are dental specialists in the restoration and replacement of teeth and related structures. It is the specialty responsible for the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of patients with complex clinical conditions using bio compatible substitutes, including implants, to replace missing or deficient teeth and/or craniofacial tissues. After general dental school, prosthodontists receive extensive training for three years with clinical experience, research and testing in an accredited ADA graduate program. This provides the prosthodontist with a special understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth and the creation of tooth replacements. Dr. Batson serves as the "architect" of a dental treatment plan and collaborates with general dentists, dental specialists and other physicians or health professionals to develop and implement solutions to your dental and oral health concerns.

Professional Organizations, Memberships and Honors
American Board of Prosthodontics - Diplomate 1995 This is the national organization that establishes certification guidelines for the ADA recognized specialty of prosthodontics and administers the didactic, clinical presentations, and oral exams. Passage of this arduous examination process ( the exam is given in 5 parts over several long weekends, usually in over 2 years ) is rewarded by a certificate, hence the holder is a board certified prosthodontist. The board then declares the member to have Diplomate status after passing the exam process. A seven year re-certification process assures continued proficiency in the members.
American College of Prosthodontists - Fellow 1995 (FACP) This is the national organization that represents the specialty of prosthodontics to the ADA, other dental specialties, the media and public or any other group. A dentist must have a certificate in prosthodontics from an ADA accredited specialty graduate program to be a full member in the organization. A member is elevated to Fellowship status automatically upon passage of the specialty board by the ABP.
American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics - Associate member This Academy is devoted to the study and practice of methods used to habilitate esthetics and function of patients with acquired, congenital and developmental defects of the head and neck; and of methods used to maintain the oral health of patients exposed to cancer-cidal doses of radiation or cytotoxic drugs. All members are prosthodontists and this functions as a subspecialty in prosthodontics.
Academy of Osseointegration - Member This is the premier international organization for the study, research and application of dental implant therapy. It provides excellent annual session meetings, a peer reviewed journal and network opportunities for members and patient referrals.
American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics - Member This organization consists of over 500 specialists from around the world, dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and competency in research, in teaching, and in the clinical practice of fixed "crown and bridge" prosthodontics.
Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine - Member An international academy for the collaboration of dental and medical colleagues to learn more about oral appliances and the role that dentists play in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders (snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, etc.).
American Dental Association-ADA, Colorado Dental Association-CDA, and Colorado Springs Dental Society-CSDS These three organizations are related in a "tri-partite" format such that a dentist is a member in good standing of all or none of them. These are the national, state and local component, respectively. Dr. Pickle is the immediate past-president of the CSDS and has been an officer for four years serving the local dental community in many ways. All positions served by dentists in our society are volunteer positions elected by the local society.
Colorado Prosthodontic Society - Member This is a state-wide group that meets 6-8 times yearly for continuing education related to restorative and prosthetic dentistry.
Columbine Periodontal Study Club - Member Also, a state-wide group that meets 4-6 times yearly for continuing education in the field of periodontal studies and related areas. This is very valuable because of the close inter-relationship of periodontic and prosthodontics.
